Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Choose A Private Midwife?

Women who choose to have private care will develop trusting relationships with their midwives, and are more likely to achieve a natural birth and be more successful with breastfeeding. Making the decision to choose a private midwife has a lot of benefits.

  • It enables you to have greater control and choice over your pregnancy, birthing options and postnatal care
  • Greater attention and focus on you as you work closely with your midwife
  • Receive continuity of care from your midwife

Why Should I Use Coastal Midwives?

Our team at Coastal Midwives are dedicated to supporting you through this time. With over 20 years of experience in midwifery, our midwives will work closely with you and help you choose the best pregnancy, birthing and post birthing care to suit your needs and desires.

You will get to know your midwife through this special time, as we provide the highest level of personalised care as we recognise that all women are different and have different experiences throughout pregnancy. Our midwives provide continuity of care to you and your family, we enjoy helping you at this special and memorable time.

Do I Need A Referral?

No, you do not need a referral for our services. You can organise an appointment with our midwives to discuss your options and desires of care.

Do I Need Private Health Insurance?

No. You do not need private health insurance to use our services. If you do have private health insurance, your costs will vary, as private health funds offer rebates on all of our services. Contact your private health fund to find out exactly what your policy covers.

Do I Need To See A GP or Obstetrician During Pregnancy?

If you have a low risk pregnancy and there have been no complications developed throughout your pregnancy, you will not need to see a GP or Obstetrician for pregnancy related concerns.

All midwives at Coastal Midwives work closely with Obstetricians and follow Australian College of Midwives (ACM) guidelines, which will guide them when to refer you to an Obstetrician for consultation if required. If your GP is managing any existing conditions, you will need to continue seeing them throughout your pregnancy. We encourage you to visit your GP after you have been discharged from midwifery services.
